Tanom Kongchan

Tanom Kongchan was born in Chaiyaphum in North-Eastern Thailand in1970. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the Fine Arts Deparment at Chiang Mai University, majoring in Sculpture.

Coming from North-Eastern Thailand, a rather dry province with not much to offer in terms of vegetation, Tanom was most impressed by the beautiful scenery and nature of Northern Thailand when he first came to Chiang Mai. He was so fascinated by the beauty and variety of flowers that he soon started to focus on flower paintings after his graduation, even though he had majored in Sculpture. His initial style of realistic paintings has evolved over time and now also includes abstract work. For the latter Tanom likes to apply bright colors and to paint flowers in the shape of butterflies, melting these two objects of beauty into one. Besides flowers, Tanom also does landscape paintings.

A small selection of Tanom’s artwork is frequently exhibited at Panisa Gallery or the Tree House. His larger portfolio of paintings can be viewed at Tanom’s home and studio, and online at tanom.goldentriangleart.com.

Portrait Zaw Win Pe

Zaw Win Pe

Zaw Win Pe was born in 1960 in Le Gaing, Mague Division in Central Myanmar (former Burma). He attended the State School of Fine Art in Yangon.

Besides doing his own artwork, Zaw Win used to work as a magazine illustrator and poster painter. His paintings have been displayed at numerous exhibitions in Myanmar, Thailand (Chiang Mai), Singapore and Hong Kong. Zaw Win’s favorite theme is landscape, portrayed in a semi-abstract style, applying rich colors. He describes his inspiration and artwork as follows. “I am inspired by landscape themes, not with the thought of painting particular places, but of expressing elemental moods and emotions. But the paintings never lack the geographical and environmental characteristics of the places I paint. Color is key for me. I believe color can speak everything about human’s feelings and thoughts.

A selection of Zaw Win Pe’s works are exhibited at Suvannabhumi Art Gallery in Chiang Mai.
