Sutat Kunah was born in Chiang Rai, the Northern-most province of Thailand, in 1960. He has not received a formal arts education, but has acquired his skills through intense self-study and with the help of other Chiangrai artists.
Sutat’s preferred theme of paintings is nature and nature scenes, in combination with Buddhist elements. He likes to portray the essentials of life through his pictures, often applying strong and fresh colors to point out prevalent moods and to underline the importance of his underlying ideas.
Sutat lives and works in Phan, just outside Chiang Rai city, where he can often be found exchanging ideas with other artists, or chatting with visitors about his artwork in his own art studio and gallery. In his spare time he is active in local politics.
Selected pieces of his paintings are frequently exhibited in art galleries in Chiang Rai and Bangkok. The larger selection is displayed in his home and gallery, and online at http://sutat.goldentriangleart.com/.
