Phanthong Saenchun was born in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, in 1965. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the Srinakarinwirot University (Burapa) Bangsaen, Chonburi.
Phanthong’s inspiration for paintings mainly comes from Buddha images, to which he adds his own imagination and personal feelings. He has shown particular appreciation for the artwork prevalent during the Kingdom of Chiang Saen, to which he had earlier dedicated an entire series of paintings, using green and blue tones of varying shades to show the power of the quiet subconscious from the past. He later experimented with new forms of Buddha images, such as Buddhas in the IT and space age, or a crying Buddha. Some of his latest works underline the power of Buddhism to bring light to the dark, by painting white Buddha images on the background of dark figures, creating the illusion of seemingly illuminated Buddhas.
Phanthong’s paintings have been exhibited at many occasions and galleries nationwide. The majority of his artwork is displayed in his home and art studio in Phan, a quiet village near Chiang Rai city, or online at http://phanthong.goldentriangleart.com/
