Noppadon Putipin was born in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, in 1962. He graduated from Chiang Rai Rajabhat University with a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education.
Like many Thai artists who adhere to Buddhism, Noppadon is mainly inspired by Buddha images, which he typically paints in the context of nature and natural structures, such as flowers and leafs. He likes to experiment with different methods and styles of paintings, with the underlying theme remaining the same. As such, he sometimes applies a special technique using dots instead of brush strokes in the creation of his paintings, just like pixels in a digital image. At other times he applies horizontal lines across the painting, purposely creating the impression of an aged and slightly damaged artwork. Some of his artwork is quite provocative by Buddhist standards, such as a colorful cartoon-like Buddha-image.
Noppadon lives and works in Phan, Chiang Rai province, where he is also an art teacher at a local school. A large selection of his artwork is displayed in his home and art studio, and online at http://noppadon.goldentriangleart.com/.
