Chumpol Taksapornchai

Chumpol Taksapornchai is a multi-faceted artist who was born in Bangkok in 1977. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Rajabhat Thonburi University with a major in Visual Communication Design.

After working in a gallery in Bangkok for a few years, Chumpol moved to Chiang Mai, where he soon opened his own studio, the ‘Matoom Art Space’. He has over the years developed a very unique style of paintings, which are to the most part about people and people’s feelings. Chumpol uses seemingly simple scetches to portray social environments, always emphasizing the importance of family values and Buddhist philosophy. This very simplicity makes his paintings appear cute despite his underlying serious thoughts.

Chumpol regularly organises exhibitions in Matoom, and provides his art space to other artists as a meeting and working place. He also gives private painting lessons.

Suppharat Raycharin

Suppharat Ratcharin

Suppharat Ratcharin was born in Ubon Ratchathanee in Northeastern Thailand in 1976. She received her first arts education at Ubon Ratchathanee College, before moving to Chiang Mai where she graduated from the Fine Arts Department at the Chiang Mai University with a major in Painting. Currently she pursues a Master’s degree in Painting at the same university.

Suppharat’s favorite theme is flowers. She likes to compare flowers to women, as they are fragile, sometimes moody - depending on how they are treated – beautiful, and they bring love and joy into people’s lives. Besides flowers, Suppharat also does paintings of landscapes, the inspiration for which she gets from the impressive natural scenery around her new home in Chiang Rai. In her latest works she combines women’s portrays with flowers, melting two objects of beauty with similar characteristics into one.

Apart from doing her own artwork, Suppharat is also a teacher in the Art Program at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University.

How is today's digital and high-tech world effecting art? Figurative painting is one of the most basic styles of art, reflecting human form and circumstance. The depiction of the human form using basic methods is being influenced, both consciously and unconsciously, by the current digital age. This exhibition by 6 Chiang Mai-based artists explores the redefinition of the meaning of figurative art in this new era.
