Sutthisak Phuthararak
Mr. Sutthisak is a highly-recognized teacher of Sculpturing at the Fine Arts Department at Chiang Mai University.
He has drawn the inspiration for his own works from the figures commonly found in Thailand’s Buddhist temples. Based upon that he has come up with his own style of sculptures, showing life-size human figures - mainly women – that in their appearance combine modern with traditional Thai elements. The sculptures often display common gestures, thus stressing the importance of seemingly unimportant gestures in people’s daily lives. Mr. Sutthisak uses mainly plaster for his works and often applies bright colors to seemingly make his figures come alive.
Sutthisak's artwork is frequently exhibited at galleries in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. A larger selection of works can be viewed upon appointment with the artist at the Fine Arts Department at Chiang Mai University, or online at http://sutthisak.goldentriangleart.com/
